About my Namesake

There was no question about what my podcast/blog would be about. It was a no-brainer—of course, it would be about books! The name, on the other hand, took some time.
It was the first thing I wanted to get set in stone before pursuing further ideas.
I knew I wanted it to be related to literature, but not in a sarcastic pun sort of way. At the time my dad first suggested I have a podcast, I was in the middle of reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë for the first time and slowly falling in love with it. The novel mostly takes place in Thornfield Hall, a manor estate owned by the character Mr. Edward Rochester. I always loved the manor’s name and grew a sentimental attachment to it afterward.
Playing around with the name Thornfield, I soon found “Thornfield Lane”. It felt so easy and natural and along with being derived from one of my favorite books, it was, simply, ideal. Even so, I continued brainstorming in case I found a better one. I briefly considered “Manderly Memories” based on the estate in Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, but it didn’t feel right. I always returned to “Thornfield Lane” until I realized there was no better fitting name.
I owe a lot of things to Charlotte Brontë, and my blog’s name is one.
Thornfield Lane is now a sentimental place in my mind, and I hope it becomes the same for you. A place where we can connect over our love for beautiful literature and forget the world’s troubles for a moment.
